Painting from life.
Working quietly, in public places.
I paint directly from life, often in the street or in other everyday places, working slowly and attentively.
Much of the work happens in public view, where conversations sometimes begin and unexpected opportunities occasionally arise.
Most of what follows comes through word of mouth and chance encounters while painting. I work mostly away from social media, preferring real places, direct observation, and conversations that happen naturally while painting.
If you’ve found this site, you were likely meant to.
I have drawn and painted throughout much of my life, exploring a wide range of approaches from photorealistic work to abstraction. Alongside traditional media I have also worked with photography, digital tablets, and other forms of digital image-making.
Opportunities to pursue creative work professionally have arisen only occasionally alongside other kinds of work and responsibilities. Even so, the interest in making images has remained a constant thread.
My interests continue to shift and develop. At present I am spending part of my time training myself in plein-air painting — working directly from observation in public places.
I paint outdoors and from direct observation.
Opportunities for commissions or projects often arise through meeting people in person while I’m working. From time to time I also accept commissions or collaborative projects that feel like a good fit.
When work does come, I take on a limited amount, at a pace that allows care and attention.
I’m not seeking scale or constant visibility. I value discretion, presence, and doing fewer things well.
A small selection of recent work.
The pieces shown here represent some of the directions my work has taken, including painting from observation, studio work, and other creative explorations developed over time.
My life and work are shaped by Christian faith.
I try to let that show through how I work and how I treat people, rather than through promotion or performance.
If you’ve met me while I’m painting, or have been directed here by someone you know, you are welcome to get in touch.
